At the end of last week, after U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., finally wielded the gavel, a member of the Florida delegation led more than a dozen House members in calling the new GOP majority “to remain in session until key legislation is passed and sent to the U.S. Senate” and “reiterated the promises made to the American people, and urged continued legislative action until they were fulfilled.”
U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., led a letter to all House members, which was signed by Republicans ranging from moderate U.S. Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., to conservative U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.
“In combat, we don’t quit when the clock hits 5 PM. We don’t quit when we’re tired, or hungry, or want to see our families. We step off the battlefield when the mission is accomplished and not before,” the members wrote. “We are calling on the new House Republican majority to accomplish what we have promised before we step off the battlefield.”
Mast and the Republicans who signed the letter called for the House to “pass legislation to repeal funding for the 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents; pass legislation instituting term limits for members of Congress; pass legislation to require President Joe Biden to complete the border wall and give Customs and Border Patrol agents necessary resources; pass a balanced budget amendment; pass the Parents Bill of Rights.”
